The UK is experiencing a huge behaviour shift; the Office of National Statistics recently issued data highlighting that the number of adults who confirm that they do not drink alcohol is at its lowest since records began in 2005. A further 25%* of us are actively trying to moderate our drinking and this change in drinking preferences is driving a huge surge in the sales of non-alcoholic, adult beverages.
Over the last 12 months, Thomas Ridley Foodservice has seen a significant increase in sales of low or no alcohol products, especially in those drinks that offer a more sophisticated adult beverage.
Steve Lyons, Sales Director at Thomas Ridley Foodservice outlines the changes they are observing,
“No longer happy with a soft drink on tap, customers now want to enjoy something unique, flavoursome and totally Instagram worthy. We have taken a look into this sector of the market and the drinks that are really tapping into the new trends for non alcoholic drinks are the ones achieving success.”
Drinkers are looking for brands that adhere to their personal values and that applies just as strongly for non alcoholic drinks as any other beverage. Steve shares the top trends that are driving success in this sector.
Sustainability – Sustainability is a big issue, we’re not even talking about straws anymore and glass bottles are beating plastic every time.
Locally made produce – it is a big deal and brands that are created, designed and manufactured in the UK from UK sourced ingredients, are proving to be the winners.
Instagram-able – we all love to share what’s new, what we’re doing that is different to everyone else and the companies who are creating drinks with this in mind are the ones who are winning.
Personalisation – something unique and a little quirky will ensure that brands stand out. How to make a drink different to each customer? Drinks can be customised by adding fresh fruit, mixers or flavoured tonics and offering a range of ingredients that a customer can use to create their own twist on a drink is a great option.
“A brand that is really delivering to all of the above trends is Kolibri.” explains Steve, “In a bar, restaurant or venue near you, take a look at the amazing range from Kolibri. The concept of a sophisticated adult drink has never been more expertly met than with this range of three variants where a customer can customise to their own palate. Beautiful ingredients come together with spring water and spices to create delicious flavours. Adding the Kolibri Drops, a customer can tailor the sweetness of the drink and create something totally unique. These are truly multisensorial drinks, with their stunning glass bottles, vibrant design, unique flavour combinations and ability to customise, they have already been very popular with our customers.”
