Having been nominated for The Best Street Food Event at The British Street Food Awards , labelled number 1 on Time Out London’s Hot List, The Daily Telegraph’s Number 1 ‘Top Things To Do’, we had to find out more! Streetzine talks to Solicitor Jessica Tucker, founder of Urban Food Fest..
(Update) Last event this season for Urban Food Fest will be held on the 28th June 2014 – Don’t miss it!
SZ. How and when did the Urban Food Fest first become established?
JT. Urban Food Fest first began in the summer of 2013, with the aim of serving gourmet restaurant quality street food and craft drinks from quirky street food trucks and stalls. We do our own Urban Food Fest street food night markets on Shoreditch High Street, East London as well bringing our trucks and stalls to corporate and private events all across the UK. Our delicious gourmet street food dishes and craft drinks have been provided at events for international corporations and institutions, film studios, parties for Hollywood actors, press events, birthday and office parties, weddings, charity events and public events in the City of London.
SZ. Tell us about the growth of the Urban Food Fest since its inception.
JT. The Urban Food Fest has grown over night. This is due to the demand for delicious global cuisines at very cheap prices and the fact that people want to be able to try various craft beers, ciders and cocktails that they can’t get anywhere else.
We are hired for corporate and private events as our service is impeccable: we provide tasty street food dishes from super cool trucks and stalls, served by charming staff who are punctual and leave no mess. We can cook up every kind of cuisine – including Japanese sushi, Korean ramen burgers, Jamaican jerk chicken, Louisiana frogs legs and Italian pizzas, as well as traditional farm-reared English hog roasts and beef hot dogs. We have done some very fun corporate events including Lyle’s Golden Syrup’s pancake day on Phipp Street in Shoreditch (which we renamed “Flip Street” for the day) and events for Apple, Warner Bros, fashion brand Eleven Paris, actress Lake Bell, actor Henry Cavill (the new superman), amongst others.
Our own Shoreditch street food market on the other hand enable the British public to come to us to experience: gourmet street food, an amazing bar, plenty of seating and an incredible atmosphere to meet old and new friends. Last summer we had visitors to the events who flew in especially from the US and Europe to come to the Urban Food Fest street food night market. The international recognition for the brand is fantastic.
SZ. What are the benefits of your current location for the fest.
JT. Our own street food night markets are held at the Euro Car Parks flat surface car park at 162-175 Shoreditch High Street in East London. The site is on the main high street and is very close to 3 stations and plenty of bus links. We are in the heart of Shoreditch and location-wise there really couldn’t be a better site! We are very lucky! Additionally, the site is spacious so that we can accomodate 15 street food trucks and stalls as well as seating. This is the perfect combination for a great night out and I think why we have gotten first class reviews in the national press!
SZ. Have you any plans for expansion or does your current venue allow for that?
JT. We are planning to relaunch our own street food night markets very, very soon… Please follow us on Twitter @UrbanFoodFest, like us on Facebook Urban Food Fest or check our website www.urbanfoodfest.com to find out more!
SZ. Do you charge the public an entrance fee? Any other offers?
It is free entry to come to our street food night market and our food and drinks are very good value – large portions, small prices! We also have competitions on Twitter and Facebook with fantastic prizes such as winning cupcakes; or getting free pizzas or a free round of drinks at our street food night markets if you tweet or Facebook in your replies for our quiz questions. Also, we like to give out prizes at our markets, such as at last year’s Urban Food Fest themed Oktoberfest event we gave out large bottles of champagne for the best costumes!
In fact, we would like to launch a competition for Streetzine’s readers! The prize: a round of craft beers for you and 4 friends at one of our events. The quiz question: Tweet us @UrbanFoodFest (hashtag #Streetzine) or Facebook us: your favourite street food dish
SZ. Tell me a little about any new cuisines you may have lined up for this year.
JT. Every event has different street food trucks and stalls – this keeps each event very unique and fresh! This year we have a lot of very exciting events planned, including themed events and new quirky dishes being especially made for the Urban Food Fest – such as pulled pork and secret sauce wraps, vegan pulled tofu burgers, Japanese & Korean spiced sushi, alongside the Urban Food Fest’s own innovative cocktails and brand new craft beers that are not yet on the market. So for the best street food and drinks in the UK…please do come to the Urban Food Fest!
Our craft beers including the incredible brand new Indian Runner premium golden ale. The brand was only launched a few weeks ago and it is taking the UK by storm. We are the exclusive first street food market to stock it and we are very proud. The hops and flavours are perfect and we highly recommend everyone trying it. We also feature a Orchard Pig cider which comes straight from the fields of Somerset. Its crisp apple taste comes in a medium and dry varieties and are divine!
