Showcasing the regions’ best street food and drink vendors
Now in its thirteenth year, the recent Huddersfield food and drink festival was a roaring success, traders from across the region confirmed that they had never been so busy! The sun was shining and everyone was smiling at this superbly hosted event.
Food and drink came in many wonderful forms and varieties, from crocodile to crepes’ craft ales to slush puppy cider, curry to cupcakes, to name but just a few of the superb offerings from the traders, in fact over 80% of the traders who attended the event are based in Yorkshire, sourcing over 65% of their produce locally!
With an estimated footfall of over 160,000 people attending the three day festival, made this event the most successful to date, placing Huddersfield firmly on the culinary map.
The key aim of this wonderful festival is to promote regional and local businesses as well as the diverse range of cultures in Huddersfield. This years’ festival had it all, from wood fired pizza to curry goat, there was something for everyone and even topped off with stunning entertainment, cookery demonstrations and master classes.
In the name of research of course, we did try and eat a little of everything on offer, my personal favourites were the curry goat from Discovery Bay and the amazing wood fired pizza from Backyard Ovens, washed down with a very tasty tipple of Raspberry Ale from the Armitage Monkey Club!
The location was stunning, set around Huddersfield’s impressive St George’s Square with its Victorian architecture and Grade 1 listed railway station, described by John Betjemen as the most splendid station façade in England, second only to St Pancras.
As I walked round the festival filling my belly with amazing delights, I couldn’t help noticing that there was no litter! Testament to the organisers and a big shout out to all the volunteers that gave up their precious time to keep the event running smoothly and trash free.
The annual food and drink festival is hosted by Huddersfield Town Centre Partnership, an organisation that in partnership with other businesses and agencies, promotes Huddersfield to visitors and businesses. Working closely with partners, it promotes a safe and vibrant shopping environment within the town centre.
