The capital has firm American barbecue favourites Bodeans and Pitt Cue…
Now Norfolk has its first pop-up offering of smoked meats, cooked ‘low and slow’ using authentic American smoke-pit methods. This week Norwich’s popular street food fixture The Harbercue Smokehouse opens for a winter residency at Ten Bells, located on St Benedicts Street, Norwich.
This Saturday, 12th October, The Harbercue Smokehouse opens with an evening of tasters and free sides from a deliciously extended menu; American inspired cocktails, and a Harbercue décor complete with playlist, for the authentic American barbecue experience.
‘After a successful first summer for Harbercue, we look forward to moving what we love into Ten Bells for the winter,’ explains Harbercue’s deputy pit-master Ed Harber. ‘Since our first meeting with Richard, we knew we’d found a bar that truly shares our passion for delivering the all-round American barbecue experience.’
The four dynamic guys behind Harbercue travelled the barbecue states of America before building a traditional backyard smoke-pit and setting up shop in May. Their vision was to provide a good quality and honest menu to lovers of American barbecue. True to this ethos, Harbercue keeps the menu simple, using only the best of local produce and source their free-range meat from Swannington Farm.
While the method of smoking meat is becoming achingly fashionable in London, The Harbercue Smokhouse brings an honest interpretation of American barbecue to Norwich.
The stars of the show are pulled pork and beef brisket, smoked ‘low and slow’ for 12-15 hours. In addition, a double, triple or 4 times stacked cheese burger will debut on the extended Ten Bells menu. The staple Harbercue Deli-bun menu comprises meat and vegetarian options, stacked high in a brioche bun, with the option of a variety of sides, including: slaw, spicy beans, corn fritters and battered gerkins with blue cheese sauce. The Deli-bun and Tray menus are complemented by a selection of Harbercue’s popular signature sauces and Whiskey and Gin based cocktails from Ten Bells bar.
Traditional whiskey and gin bar, Ten Bells, excitedly prepares: ‘There are a few great bars in London backed-up with excellent burnt barbecue and we are so pleased to offer this in Norwich. Harbercue is the perfect fit with our bourbon menus. We will be rolling out some exciting American inspired cocktails on Saturday,‘ says manager Richard. Ten Bells will be adding to their vast cocktail list with some delectable barbecue specials, including Bacon Old Fashioned, Gin Smash and Bourbon Smash, Bloody Maria and Cream gin with Coke and vanilla salt. Saturday’s pop-up launch follows a summer residency on the popular Playhouse Bar Terrace.
Since starting in May, Harbercue has also enjoyed a partnership with Redwell Brewing, and their succulent smokey meats have been smelt at an array of large charity, music and UEA events.
Ready to order? Come down from 7pm on 12th October and you’ll be treated to a free side with any meal* and a barbecue bonanza of free tasters and American Slammers. The Harbercue will be serving at Ten Bells every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 12pm through until evening (Friday from 5pm). Last orders are taken at 9.30pm and 4.30pm on Sunday.
